Buyer Beware. I'd have given zero stars if that was an option. I had an extremely bad situation with Murdock Construction (Phil Murdock) referred thru **** ******s Pro Referral system and feel I should let you all know about it. Basically we didn't get beyond the estimate stage because Owner Phil Murdock apparently became offended when he tried to get me to make a rush decision to accept his quote which I felt was high. I told him I was waiting on two other estimates and I would let him know. He just went off on me in text messages, became insulting, making false accusations and was totally unprofessional. This was totally uncalled for. Certainly it's not unusual for a customer to obtain several quotes before making a decision. **** *****'s referral system sent me no less than five e-mails recommending contractors. I tried explaining this to no avail. His rudeness continued. Quite frankly I'm shocked **** ***** would recommend to their customers a contractor that is so rude and condescending. I'm equally shocked Murdock Construction is still in business. Again, this situation was completely uncalled for and his lack of professionalism is surprising being he was referred to me by **** *****. In hindsight I feel strongly that Phil Murdock was trying to strong arm me into accepting his high "price gouging offer" by stating he could start right away and if I don't take it he'd probably have to move onto another project. When I didn't fall for it, he clearly became angry. Again buyer beware. We all deserve better than a contractor like this!

    Murdock Construction Response

    08/31/2023

In response to the above review. At Murdock Construction I give Fair estimates regardless of what **** said above. When he says my estimate was high he doesn't consider that half of the price quote was materials alone. Any legitimate contractor who is insured and knows what they're doing charges between $50 and $100 per hour per man and builds that into the quote. I do not charge by the hour but by the job and the difficulty and experience that it requires. There were no intentions to rush the job with **** like he said. I simply asked him if he was interested in having me do the job that I would be available the next day. Only to let him know that I had the time if he was ready to go. When I was at his house for the estimate he asked me how long the job would take. I said probably about a week. He responded by saying really it would take that long? I explained him why it would take one week for one man to take apart all of work done. Then when I sent him a written quote via text message he responded by saying wow I thought it would be half of that price. That's when I said the materials costed half of the quote alone. As you can see there was some sarcasm and his responses or at least an expectation of a set price he had in mind. I explained as much as I could to him patiently. The next day when I asked him if he wanted me to do it the following day he sent me a reply saying (???). I then explained to him what I stated in the above statement. At that point he replied by saying he has to get an estimate that day and another one a couple of days later on top of my estimate and someone who came to give him an estimate but never got back to him. That is perfectly acceptable except the fact that I really felt he was just Price shopping by getting three and four quotes only because of the way he reacted when he said the things he said about expecting it to be half the price and take half the time. The real issue lies in the fact that he expected to pay a certain amount. On and by which means he arrived with this thought I have no idea. By now I just had lost interest in doing work for him because of his somewhat surprisingly sarcastic innuendos. I told him I'm not interested in doing work because I'm not going to try to meet a price. I told him I give my estimates on experience and quality of work. I was not going to compete with other prices when I had no idea what kind of work somebody was going to do. If you don't like the price then you don't have to hire me. There were no derogatory or insulting comments I made to him it was actually the other way around derogatory insults on my part. I would like to know where he got that from. It was actually him who insulted me after I had no interest in the job. All I can say to the public is if you want to get the lowest price that's your choice. If you want to suffer the consequences from that you'll have to deal with them after the job is done or in the middle of it. I have been reviewed by many customers through the pro referral at **** *****. If you feel the need to check my reviews out then log on to that website. Murdock construction is a 4.9 star company with the pro referral. I've been doing construction for 36 years. I'm well aware of the character that was displayed by ****. As you can see he had a lot of really nasty comments to say about me. Which just goes to show his poor behavior.
