I purchased 4 65,000-mile Goodyear tires (total estimated cost of $750-$800) for my 2017 Honda CRV from Honda Marysville in Marysville, OH in March or April of 2020. In December of 2021, I was told that the they would need to be replaced, as the treads were 3/32 and 4/32 after being driven only 28,000 miles. We were told we could make the tires last until my next oil change (5,000 to 7,000 more miles). One week later, in January 2022, one of the tires split at a seam. We returned to Honda Marysville who said they would work with Goodyear to resolve the situation in the form of a "goodwill" transaction, as the tires lasted half of their advertised lifespan. Honda was told by Goodyear that nothing could be done, as the treads would need to be 2/32 and there was "some life left" in the tires. I wrote a complaint to Goodyear, as this was not acceptable to us, given that the tires lasted half of their miles. I did not get any response back.

On 1/23/19, I purchased a 60 month battery from Goodyear for $133.52, plus $55 labor. On 1/10/22 my battery died and I had to get a jump from roadside assistant. I had an appointment on 1/11/22 with goodyear to check my battery. I was told my battery was at 66% and that I hadn’t driven my vehicle enough miles over the past years: I was told they could send my battery back as defective and prorated it and I would have to pay 130+ for another battery, or they could charge my battery for me: I chose to let them charge the battery. On on 1/16/22 , My battery died again, and I called Goodyear to inquire about sending the battery back, and possibly getting another battery at the pro rate price. The gentleman that I talked to; said I had to bring the car in again so they could check it out. And he didn’t know anything about prorating a battery. I explained to him that I was just there on Tuesday. All he kept saying was anything could be wrong with my car , and they couldn’t do anything until they checked it out. He also told me a new battery Could run me anywhere from $200 to $250. On January 17 I had my battery jump again by road side service and I went to my dealer Martin dealership in Newark Delaware, and purchased a 100 month battery for $139.95 plus $20 installation. And I have had no problems with my car starting since: I would also like to note in August 2020, I had a new alternator installed by the dealer Martin dealership, So that was not a problem. I feel as though good year did not want to honor their Warranty For the 60 month battery; that was giving me problems after only having it for 48 months. Therefore I had to go somewhere else and purchase a new battery which was far cheaper and for more months then what they originally quoted me a prorate price. And I don’t understand why the gentleman on the phone said he didn’t know about prorating a battery, because all businesses do that.

I spoke to the consumer this morning and offered to prorate 24 months of the 60 month battery.  She accepted the offer.

I went to Raben Tire in Owensboro, KY on January 13 and dropped my car off to have new brake pads put on and have the tires rotated. They job was completed and picked my car up 3 hrs later. On January 14 my son was driving the car to work and his hubcap fell off going down the road at 60 miles an hour and was crushed. I called Raben and they said sorry but they were not responsible and refused to take responsibility. So now I have to pay another $40 and order a replacement. VERY POOR BUSINESS AND I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK THERE AGAIN UNLESS THEY TAKE RESPONSIBILTY AND PAY ME FOR THE HUBCAP.

I purchased tires from Car Care a Goodyear Owned Co. on Wabash in Chicago in November 2021. I asked for at the time of install something to verify the tires were new. I did not get that and I over heard a conversation between the employee I asked and another employee. One asked why didn't you show her the other replied then she would know that they were not new,. I have attempted to contact this company over and over I am always transferred over and over or no answer. I AM ON HOLD NOW AFTER HAVING BEEN TRANSFERRED AGIAIN. The tires installed on my 2018 were manufactured in 2018. Please assist as all I get is the run around here. I paid 600 plus. Thank you Sincerely *** *****

Tires are considered new at the time of installation, and the warranty is for 6 years from the date of purchase.

The USTMA (United States Tire Manufacturing Association) represents the position that there is not one specific chronological age at which tires should be removed from service because there is no data that supports a specific age.

Age is not the key, consistent maintenance, proper inflation and regular inspection for treadwear patterns and damage are the keys to good tire performance.

While there is no data that demonstrates a tire is less safe when it reaches a certain age, for consumers who are concerned about the age or condition of their tires, it is recommended they let a tire professional inspect their tires. We have offered to arrange a tire inspection for the customer, but would not replace tires that came new from the warehouse as they are considered new at the time of installation.

      Customer response

      12/28/2021

I am rejecting this response because:
I expected more from Goodyear a so called American made product company.  I have been trying to speak with a representative from the company since the day after install in November 2021.  I have been told supervisors refuse to speak, representatives disconnect or I was transferred at least 4-5 times each time I called.  I was told a supervisor would call me yet an Executive Assistant called.  It  seems like this is normal practice for this company, warranty warranty warranty.  I am not accustomed to such deceitful business practices.  When I paid over $600.00 for the tires I was not told I would get old tires. The DOT on my tires is from 2018, 3 years old already.  Why would I trust a place that sold me old tires but I paid new pricing to inspect tires for me.  We all know what that conclusion would be.  I would like NEW tires installed which is what I paid for.  I didn't pay for tires manufactured in 2018, 3 years ago.

I asked  for verification at the time of install that I was getting new tires, this was not done.  By the comments I heard(in the original complaint)  I believe this  was done intentionally.  The shop Car Care on 18th Wabash a Goodyear owned company did the install .  I thought this meant something.  When I called back there the representative was rude.  I have been treated rudely , transferred ,issue not addressed when I called, the customer service number.  Regardless of a warranty I would like NEW tires installed which is what I paid for not used tires .

I was originally not given a ship date when I called the customer service number for the tires.  I was told the shop should have them.  I am not sur how a company can charge new tire price for old tires then claim a warranty.

We have received this customer's rebuttal. I am a Supervisor in our Consumer Relations Department with over 20 years experience in addition to being an Executive Assistant. I have explained our position on tire age, and offered to arrange for a tire inspection for the customer's tires and would be happy to honor any warranty issues that are present.

After purchasing 4 goodyear tires I was able to find a discounted price on the same tires, and I contacted goodyear to make a rebate claim. This claim was "approved" via email more than one time as valid, but the company has yet to issue the rebate, and has stop communicating with me altogether. Here I simply would like my rebate to be processed and sent. You can review the attached email thread that shows this is valid and was said to be processed (more than once).

      Good afternoon,

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. Upon receiving this email, I was able to look over the comments sent in from the customer. I went into our database and found a claim that was issued under the customers name where his same issue was mentioned and documented from the beginning of his concerns. I reached out to the employee who was working with Mr. ******* and was able to get all documentation sent over to my email. I then reached out to Mr. ******* himself, where I was able to get the last piece of information we needed in order to send this customer his credit for price matching. I also confirmed his address we had on file to make sure the check was sent to the correct place. I advised Mr. ******* the check was being cut and sent out today, and to allow up to 2 weeks for check to arrive with holidays in mind. The customer has been helped, and in the future we will do all that we can to ensure a timely fashion for our claims to be followed up on, and to also do a better job to inform customers and update them on issues

      Thanks again for reaching out!

We are currently working to resolve this customer concern. Her brakes are under warranty and that is being addressed. Our store has started a damage claim for the oil leaks. While we inserted dye in her A/C system to check for leaks, she never returned to have any A/C work performed of find out where it was leaking. Her claim is pending.

Our Toyota corolla was repaired in the Goodyear Auto Service Center on Nov 27, 2021. The weird thing about this repair is that we had this car repaired at the same service center with the same problem two and half years ago. After carefully comparing the two invoices which we enclosed, we found that there were serious problems associated with the repair they had done two years ago. -They used a remanufactured starter which they did not mention at that time. On average, a starter motor should last for 100,000-150,000 miles. My car with the refurnished parts they used only lasted for 17, 758 miles. (Odometer reading: 173,588Miles-155,830Miles=17,758 miles). It is only 11% of the original starter milage. -The price they charged for a remanufacture starter was $260.62 (March 1, 2019), the price they charge for a new starter is $279.99 (Nov 27, 2021). There is only a $19 different for a brand new starter verses the low quality starter they used in our car. Also, in today’s market with inflation, a new car starter with ******** brand they are using is only about $90. We were royal customers (8 years) for their service until we found out about these serious problems, we called their customer phone number (1-800-321-2136, Case Number: ******* to settle this unnecessary repair for a total refund which they refused to do. They claimed that they only had a two-year warranty for the repair service. We would be fine if they used quality parts and a reasonable price for the parts. However, they did not. So, we request to have our $469.69 starter parts and service charges from the second time to be entirely refunded. I would appreciate your kindly help on this matter.

Dear Sir/Ma'am: Goodyear guarantees a pro-rated amount on their tires. Yet their system is a discount off a brand new set of tires. This system discriminates against the poor, who would usually buy used tires which cost up to $45.00/ea. in my part of the Country. My tires only lasted 18,000 miles and were on the car which I bought per-owned. I bought the car with 43,000 miles on it and it only lasted until 60,000. Now the tires are not inspection worthy. Please find documents that show the mileage I have is valid. My request is a refund of $180.00.Thank you for your services. -*******
