I've bid on several auction sites and had a very positive experience, until EBTH. A $24 item was shipped by some random freight company (not listed with the BBB and no website provided, just a phone # and email address) and the total cost was over $300; more than 5 times the cost of ***** and **** which would arrive earlier (pricing sheets were attached to email to show the vast difference in price). The only way this shipping cost would be appropriate is if the shipper hand carried the item and walked it from **** to **. I contacted them within 48hours of receiving the invoice to have them hold the shipping, but was told it was already shipped but the invoice clearly says pick-up items will be available for pick-up for 8-10 days and they will try to get items shipped within 10 days. If I had 8-10 days to pick up the item, why would it be shipped within 48hrs? Did my 39x28x22" item take up so much room that they had to get it out of their warehouse immediately? Why was the other item not shipped until 10/23? There was no insurance placed on the item, but I was charged for expedited shipping which seems absurd if they view the item as antique/valuable. Also tried to contact the shipping company at the number they gave me, to no avail! I only selected shipping because I wasn't sure if I could get off work during their pick-up window- huge mistake. I would say I won't make that mistake again, but know I WILL NEVER USE THIS SITE AGAIN. This was the most unpleasant experience and cash grab that I've ever encountered. Hopefully, enough bad reviews will cause EBTH and their hand-picked, second-tier shipper will change their shady business practices and stop ripping off customers!Review from Lynda K

SELLERS BEWARE!! Everything But The House is not what it used to be. They take over 30 days to process your items, their commission rates are outrageous. Anything that sells from 0-$30, they keep 100% of the money. You get -0-. Anything that sells $31-60, they charge a $30 commission rate. $60-250, they charge 50% commission. They will tell you they will group items for a higher selling price, they do not. They send will cut you a check and sent it in the snail mail....delaying the minuscule proceeds you do make. A complete and utter waste of time and money.Review from Shereen A

Everything But the House claims to sell authentic ******* and ******* jewelry. I took my pieces into the luxury stores and both confirmed the items were fakes from the auction house. I have been disputing the returns for almost a year. If the pieces had been authentic, I believe that EBTH would have accepted these two pieces without hesitation but EBTH now only accept returns from a set list of stores who authentic. Most will not provide paperwork. Purchase with caution! Not even **** is helpful in these scenarios. I've been re-opening my **** dispute every 30 days since October 2023. Do not give up. I will not pay $8k on two fakes!Review from Terry B

Purchased a ****** statue, figuring in the description it said that the finger was chipped when I received the merchandise. The finger was missing call to dispute the charge and they said I shouldve looked at the picture. You literally had to blow the picture up so big and you still could not tell that the finger was missing, customer service is rude and extremely unworkable. Do not purchase anything from this company unless you wanna lose your money if youre not satisfied.Review from mike K

I have made several purchases EBTH. All purchases went very well.I have found their staff to be very friendly and helpful. My most recent purchase was an antique grandfather clock. It was very large and extremely heavy. I had it transferred from the location it was at to one closer to me.They did an excellent job transferring it. I did bring help to load it .It was so heavy it took four people to do so. Two of the staff at the Hilliard Ohio Location help load it. They are not required to do this . I really appreciated their help. I have been a customer for several years and will continue to be.Review from Angela U

Do not sell on this site. I sent in my very expensive artwork. There was nothing wrong with any of the pieces, and yet, they were all categorized as defective. I asked to have them taken down and sent back, as they did not make me aware of the poor ratings before posting the items. I wrote a number of times, and was told that I had to send 30 dollar processing fee, for my things that were not damaged. I asked that they return my items, and instead of doing so they sold them and have me 30.00 for each piece. These are signed original paintings. Do not do business with them, because once they have your items they will do as they please with them, and you have no recourse. They literally stole my items after I expressly asked for them to be returned. I was told that the manager would be available to speak, yet every time I called , or wrote to her about my items, she was not available. If I could give them a minus 100, I would.Review from Lana G

The shipping cost is nutritious and although they have good products and they say they're authentic but they do not offer certifications of authenticies. These documentations are essential especially if you're in the resell business. Listen to me when I say, I will never order from them again especially when there are other reputable, and expensive and price, and little to no shipping cost auction fights out there.Review from S. My elderly mother is leaving her home and we contacted Everything But the House to sell some of her furniture and valuables. I woman came to her house and explained the process. My mom asked her directly if there were any fees for selling with EBTH. She explained their commission and $25/hour fee, and later sent us a contract to sign. Buried in the contract was a two-line reference to a $900 "home service fee" which the woman never mentioned, even when asked directly, which would have wiped out any potential profits from the sale of my mom's items. The representative was extremely deceptive when not mentioned this fee when asked directly about their fees. This seems like a system designed to cheat elderly people and grieving families (the people most likely to be engaged in estate sales) out of any hope of income from the sales of their possessions. I'll never be selling with EBTH again, and would encourage anyone who does not to take their representatives words at face value, but to carefully read any document they have you sign. Their system (hidden fees, breaking sales into small lots) is designed to maximize the amount of profit they make, at the expense of the sellers.Everything But the House Response

Good Afternoon, Thank you for the feedback. We take client satisfaction seriously and are glad to hear from you. Your review mentioned the ~$25.00/hr rate and our commission being communicated during consultation. After reviewing the proposal, the scope of work required to pack the items and transport them back to our Cincinnati location amounted to $900.00. We apologize for any miscommunication. The $900.00 fee outlined in the proposal is the summation of that scope of work at the ~$25.00/hr rate. We wish you and your mother all the best as you work towards downsizing the home. We are sorry to hear that we are not a good fit.Customer Response

I won a 14K russian emerald and diamond ring on 2/8/24. It was immediately paid for and a shipping label was created on 2/9/24. And then it NEVFER shipped! I called twice and spoke directly with staff who assured me they would e-mail the warehouse. I left another VM and an e-mail. On 2/19/24 I got an e-mail from EBTH that they consider the package lost in transit and have refunded my money (with a caveat that if it gets delivered they will charge my credit card again for the full amount). Absurd & Ridiculous. I called *** ** with the tracking number and they have ZERO record of receiving the package for shipment. On-line it shows label created, but not picked up for delivery. Nary a mention about filing a claim with *** **. This means either theft by employee, or I suspect, it will show up again in auction in the hopes of capturing a higher price. It should be noted that five (5) rings and a bracelet that sold that same night DID in fact reappear several days later in the auction. I also suspect I was a victim of schill bidding. Just as many have described within the last 5 minutes a mysterious new bidder shows up and several times bids with 1-2 minutes remaining. There is no point if you are a serious bidder, you will bid before the final 5 minutes knowing the clock resets. There is no way EBTH and the seller with whom they are commissioned would just let an expensive emerald ring vanish like a fart in the wind. None of this passes the smell test!Everything But the House Response

Good Afternoon, We are sorry to learn your order did not arrive. We understand how frustrating this must be. We tracked your package via ***** and like you said, it is currently listed as “Shipment information sent to *****” with the tracking number found on your Won Items page. We also reviewed the bin where the item was last scanned and observed it in the Pendship Lane. Together, this indicates it was placed onto the ***** truck but from what we can see, the item has never been scanned into *****. As our Client Service associate explained, if ***** scans it into their facility and it is ultimately delivered, we will reach out to re-charge the payment method on file. Our facility has cameras throughout and the first step in investigating this type of situation is to review footage of the item moving in the warehouse. We can confidently say an employee did not steal your item. In addition, EBTH sells thousands of items a month and as such, would not rely on their re-sale to make us want to keep an item from a buyer. Finally, we reviewed the bids associated with this item and saw where bidding increased significantly in the last 5 minutes. There is no correlation between the bidder and the seller and it is not unusual for bidding to spike when an item is ending. Once again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and hope we have addressed all your concerns in this response. Kind regards, The EBTH TeamCustomer Response

What a bunch of word salad. It's not that my item never arrived, it never left the ***** warehouse! ***** has erased the won item from my account. The Fed Ex tracking number ONLY shows up on the page that displays WON items, It does NOT show up on the product description or the invoice (both of which I printed out), I now have no way of trying to "track" the package. I had contacted Fed Ex several times and it's simple, nothing goes on the truck without it being scanned. ***** is lying. Their deduction that because it was in a bin destined for the truck means it made it on the truck is a falsehood and a sad attempt at an explanation. Notice how ***** has not filed a claim with Fed Ex, notice how there is no mention of the seller with whom they are consigned filing a claim. No reputable company allows an $800 ring to go missing, the seller would be out their 60%. Bottom line, this item didn't meet the sellers minimum reserve and they did not want to see it sold for the price I bid. ***** did their best with Shill bdding to bid me up and I fell for it. This is not a one off, look back at the online reviews and BBB complaints. Expensive items that have hidden reserves get ****** bid, or "lost" in transit...only problem is ***** (or the sellers) never seems to file claims against the carrier, and they keep using the same carrier. Logic would tell you if their is a problem with the carrier you switch carriers. The others were right, this company is a scam. Prove me wrong, file a claim with Fed Ex for this item! Show me the correspondence you had with the seller informing them that not only did you NOT sell the ring, but you also lost the ring and they are out the money and the ring. Ive made several purchases. Some Im super happy with. But when things go south, its REAL south. Example 1: I bought diamonds and the description didnt say they had been altered. Took it to my jewelry and he concluded they had obviously been altered. I didnt have the energy to fight. Example 2: I made a bid based on the picture and title of the item. The picture was a gold ***** link bracelet. The title said ******* Sterling Bracelet. I wont the item and then afterwards realized that the bracelet was made of silver and not gold. I emailed them to complain that the combination of the title and the picture were misleading especially when you cannot retract a bid. I cited consumer protection laws and they said they disagreed. So too bad to sad for me. This time, this one really ****** me off because how dismissive and unprofessional they were. So I reversed the charge on my ****. Not sure if the matter is still closed or if **** will end up recharging me for the purchase. EBTH now retaliated by locking me out of my account. So I cant see any of my former purchases. I get an error message that I need to contact customer service about my account.Everything But the House Response

Good Afternoon,We are sorry to hear about your negative experience with EBTH! We work hard to ensure our listings are transparent so buyers receive what is up for auction. We reviewed both cases and saw the diamond listing stated, "The natural or laboratory grown origin of color diamonds and diffused or surface coated gemstones cannot be determined without more advanced laboratory testing". We also reviewed the sterling ***** bracelet and noted the listed attribute of 'sterling silver' and 'gold tone finish'. Since these details were communicated at bidding, a return and a refund would not be offered.Regarding the status of your account, we do place a hold on any accounts with active credit card disputes. Disputes are received for a wide variety of reasons so to protect our consumers, we will not allow additional bidding/buying to occur until the dispute is resolved. If you would like to resell either the Cuban bracelet or loose diamonds, please email ***********************************
