Dropped off a deer for processing and when I picked it up I was informed there was “shoulder damage from being shot in the shoulder” to which I informed them maybe they had the wrong deer as mine was cleanly shot through both lungs unfortunately several inches further back from the shoulder than I had tried for. Regardless it was a clean quick double lung harvest and the deer ran 50 yards and expired in a cut field and was promptly picked up and cleaned on a hanging gambrel. No laying in the field for hours etc.. They said no they only process one deer at a time and the note says shoulder damage. So I asked what the bottom line was? Did this mean you kept some meat that I am paying for? He replied yes it was damaged. I promptly produced the pictures of the lung cavity showing both the entry and exit wounds well removed from the shoulder and a picture of the deer on its side where it expired clearly showing the entry wound well back from the shoulders as well, to which he simply replied “are you calling me a liar”. I said if you are keeping meat that should be mine that I am paying for by claiming it’s damaged then yes, I am calling you a liar. I decided this was going no where and the people there were clearly not interested in making it right and I am sure they are skimming meat to produce their own summer sausages that they sell there. It’s unfortunate that people can’t run an honest business. No attempt to make the situation better was ever made which solidifies my belief that they are skimming meat to sell their other products. No mention that there “might have” been a mix up or anything. No just that I was wrong and the deer had some mysterious shoulder damage. That being said I would not recommend Paynes as you will surely not be receiving all the meat you dropped off. On the positive side if you don’t mind being lied too and taken advantage of they did turn it around quickly and it is packaged well.
