After meeting and getting to hold their precious puppies, they said they would contact us, because they had a litter that was going to be born within weeks. They became unreliable, and unresponsive. I believe they are bias, there actions appeared to not prefer multicultural races. I tried contacting multiple times by email and phone, and never received a response.

    Opal Ridge Kennels Response

    02/05/2022

Lea contacted me in Dec 2020 to be added to our wait list. We felt there may be a puppy for the family,, so they came to visit in July 2021 to see the puppy. During the visit, Lea mentioned she was unsure where they would keep the pup while they worked (8-10 hours a day) - kids were at school. She still had not investigated the equipment (crate etc). She mentioned leaving the pup in back yard. When advised that would NOT work, proposed leaving in kitchen. THEN advised pup was gift for her son (tween).

The disconnect between "I want a puppy" and "I can care for a puppy" caused great concern. The idea that a new family would think that leaving a 12 week old puppy for 8-10 hours, LET ALONE in a back yard raised alarm! We spend MANY hours planning breedings, raising the puppies to be happy, confident, eager to learn. If we feel that a family's life style doesn't match any of our pups, it is OUR RIGHT not to place a pup. Our application clearly states we strive to match our pups to the right home, and that there are no guarantees of a pup.

As for "multicultural " bias. One of the Opal Ridge principals is Hispanic, thus, we are a multicultural business and family. Another family member is Asian. Was there a point?

Our decisions on puppy placement are based solely and always on what is best for our pups.
