On August 27th, my friends and I went to a local brewery in Tysons Corner called Shipgarten. When we sat at a picnic table underneath one of their tents, we felt a prickling sensation by our feet that was in the grass. We thought it was ants or something harmless. When I got home and saw my feet in the shower, I was in complete shock and panicked. They were covered in blistered red dots all over my feet, ankles, and some on my calves and a few scattered on my thighs. I freaked out and panicked. I texted my friends and turns out the same thing happened to them. We contacted Shipgarten immediately and right away they made it seem like we were making it up. They were dismissive and kept insisting they treat their grass for pests. Not only were they dismissive but also gaslighting us. The attitude from the owner was as if we were making this up because the employees tried sitting in the same area and did not get the same bug bites. The bites got so severe for me that I was unable to walk with shoes or sandals because of the friction it creates against my skin when I try to walk. I could not go to work. The friction and rubbing flared up my feet and created more pain and itchiness. Because it got so bad, I went to a dermatologist and she commented that the bites on my feet were most likely chigger bites. She prescribed me a steroid topical for my pain. I documented my injuries and also saved all messages from Shipgarten. Shipgarten offered a $25 giftcard to their business and I told them I do not want it. I do not wish to go to their establishment ever again, not with the way they treated me and handled this situation. I asked them to help pay for my out of pocket expenses with my doctor, which came out to $136 (I sent them a photo of my bill and told them they can send payment to my doc directly if they don’t want to send me money) and they are still reading my messages and ignoring them.
