I paid Sopris to place Solar panels on my house in ************ in March of 2022. It took over 18 months to get the panels installed and get hooked on to there grid despite them promising installation within 4 months. The system had been up and running less the 8 months when in this March we noticed parts of the panels falling off the roof. I contacted them and they came out and removed 8 panels from the roof. They told me the problem was severe wind and snow and this was not covered but that they would replace the brackets and damaged panels for cost. I agreed because of concern of damage to the roof and getting the panels back on. They promised the work would be done by June 30. The contract was written so that they would be in breech if not done by July 31. They have failed to show up multiple times and now have quit returning calls. I paid $4300 for parts and discounted labor just to get this done expeditiously to protect my roof, even tough I believe this was faulty installation. They left the damaged panels and rails in my garage taking up over half of my garage . They are no longer responding to calls or text

I entered into an agreement for the installation of a solar system at my residence. The contract was signed August1, 2022. I made two payments during the same month totalling $62,764. More than 16 months have passed and I do not have a Solar System as per the contract. The Company (Sopris Solar) took no action until November of this year when a subcontractor was sent out to install the necessary electrical connection and metering. That job was not completed, the subcontractor has not been paid and has notified me of his intent to file a lien. I have been given promise as to the date of completion that are not kept. I have recieved continuing excuses for the extensive delay, which have now desintigrated into outright lies. I know of several other customers in the same predicament, and reviews on your own website reflect more of the same. I believe this is a widespread problem which is putting consumers at risk. There has been no reasonable attempt to rectify this situation, and ,in fact, the company and it's representatives do not even return phone calls, texts or emails. There is something very wrong with the way this company is doing business and I would greatly appreciate aanything you can do to investigate.Thank you sincerely,*************************** ************

I want to begin by apologizing to ************ regarding delays in his installation. It i true that we have had numerous issues with our installers and subcontractors that we have hired. These issues have resulted in construction delays across the board. It is also true that previous electrician stole our work vehicle soon after he completed the electrical work (Jefferson County Auto theft case #**-18254). The vehicle has been recovered, but **************** is no longer in this country.

As for the lack communication from our sales team, we have done a complete reorganization of the company and ************ is no longer with H3**13938373939343738H. After looking into some of the complaints from his customers, we thought it was best that this person no longer represent H3**13938373939343738H. That being said, we have also partnered with a new installation company, PulseTurnkey that we will be taking over all of our installations. This company will be visiting with Mr. ***** the week of the January 1st and have scheduled Mr. ***** installation for the middle of January.

Again, we apologize for these inconvenience and the delays, but assure Mr. ***** that his installation will be completed in January.

      Thanks,

      ******

I am rejecting this response because:  I am not able to accept the response at this time as it amounts only to a verbal pledge.  Unfortunately, I have received several promises that the installation of my PV Solar system would commence on a given date.  None of these promises have been kept thus far.  Only if what is said becomes what is done, and my system is installed, operational, an approved by inspection, can I consider this matter resolved.  I am happy to post comments on any progress along the way.

      Sincerely,

In their response, This business made apologies for the extreme delays on my solar system.  They have made promises to schedule an appointment with me, but have not done that, and, in fact, continue their pattern of not returning calls or other communications.  Nothing has been done to further address this very concerning situation.  There are numerous similar complaints on the BBB site as well as others.  This business has been frequently changing their registered agent information with the *****************, and I am concerned that they are being deceitful with me, and their other customers.  I can no longer believe what they say and do not trust them.  After a year and a half of delays and excuses, I feel that the $60,000 that I have paid them is at risk.  I am pursuing all avenues to investigate their business practices, and determine what they are doing that is resulting in so many complaints, and why they have collected significant amounts of money from numerous consumers without delivering any results.  Someone with the authority to do so needs to seriously and thoroughly investigate the practics of this business.

To the BBB,  you still have them listed as an accredited business, despite the number of poor reviews and serious complaints that have been filed.  You are endorsing a company seemingly without any consideration of the voices of the consumers you ain to represent and protect.  I think it would be wise to invetigate the integrity of this company rather than tacitly giving your endorsement and encouraging new customer to enter into business with them.

We have spoken with ************ several times in the last two months. I visited his home to meet him, my electrician, and the solar engineer. During that visit, we could ascertain that the work we had previously done by an electrician we hired needed to be corrected. We made *********** aware of this and continued to walk his property to investigate an excellent location to install the ground mount. After our visit, we agreed that since over three feet of snow were on the ground, we would need to wait until spring to install the ground mount.  We also informed *********** that we would provide him with a. panel upgrade from 450-watt panels to 550-watt panels.  I also suggested that we deliver his panels to his home so that he can store them and possess them.

On two occasions, we attempted to have his panels to his home in ************, only to be turned away because the roads leading to **************** home were not driveable. Both times, we were charged $343 by our delivery company; I have attached the receipt for the 2nd attempted delivery below (February 6th). After the last attempt, we were told by both of the delivery companies that they would not deliver to that address until Spring because of the amount of snow and ice. That being said, we plan on providing the panels ourselves when we find some good weather in the area and we can obtain a vehicle to navigate that area.

As we mentioned during our visit, we plan on installing this ground mount as soon as the snow melts in that area of ************. This has also been communicated to *********** as well.

Please let me know if you need any additional information.

In October 2022 a part on the solar system that was installed and warrantied by Sopris Solar was not working. It is a part that is covered under the warranty. I have been told numerous times over the last year that the part has been received and they will come switch it out. The owner will not return any phone calls and none of the other people working there will either. I have tried to call the office with no luck. Even went to their office, door was locked. Quick and very responsive to get the sale after that you are of no concern to them. All I want is the new part and copies of all my paperwork including warranty information on the solar system that was installed.

I contracted with Sopris on Dec 2, 2022 for them to install a solar electric system on my home in ************. I also paid them $30k as a deposit. It is now Nov 27, 2023 and nothing has been done. Despite many emails, there is almost never any response, and when they do respond it is with a litany of excuses. Supplier problems, labor shortages, etc... Never any updates on when the job might get done. It is totally unreasonable not to perform in a reasonable time and I have completely lost confidence in their ability to deliver and then support should something go wrong. The only realistic solution is a full refund of my money. I would advise against contracting with this company.

On July 27, 2021 I signed a contract for a total system price of $27,107.80 and made a payment in the amount of $21,686.24 to CJR Partners LLC d/b/a Sopris Solar located in ******** ** *****. The payment was a deposit for a PV Solar System with turn-key installation at our home address. The project included designing the system and securing building or electrical permits. Installation speci??ed system in good workmanlike manner. Complete and submit utility interconnection documents. Coordinate building, electrical and utility inspections, and activate and commission PV system. After receiving our initial payment noted above, Sopris advised they overdesigned the project and revised the total project price to the exact amount of our inital payment, meaning I effectively made 100% of the project payment up front. The contract contained a guarantee that if he project was not installed by December 31, 2021, Sopris Solar shall reimburse the Homeowner 4% of the total system price. The system instrallation was never substantially completed in that the electrical components have never worked properly as a system and the shut-off boxes installed by Sopris Solar's subcontractors were not operable. The system has never passed inspection due to sub-standard workmanship and errors in the installation itself.Sopris Solar ABANDONED the job and ceased communication with us. I sent them a demand letter, to which Sopris never responded. Due to their inepttitude I still, to this day, do not have an operable solar system. I have spent additional monies to attempt to get them to complete the project and, continued to make payments on an electrical bill that their deliverable was promised to mitigate.I would appreciate BBB's assistance in getting a resolution to the matter of 1) failure to provide an operable system and 2) failure to provide contractually obligated relief for not installing the system before December 31, 2021.

I am rejecting this response because: Your offer does not fully resolve or remedy my complaint.  Your organization has failed to resolve this matter for over a year.  You effectively abandoned the project and made no effort to resolve the matter, including ignoring a demand letter from an attorney. Your proposal does not address my request for a contractually obligated refund due to failure to complete the project timely or provide compensatory relief on over a year's worth of electric bills which the system of which your company failed to complete installation was promised to reduce or eliminate.

Sopris Solar let the solar energy interconnection application for the project expire and now I am in a position of having to reapply after the fact but I don't have all of the documentation needed and that was submitted with the original application: building shade analysis report, site plan showing all solar and meter locations, electrical one-line, photographs of meter showing measured height of meter face from grade and wide-angle photo, completed /signed net metering agreement, and equipment specification sheets.

It would be helpful if I can get a complete copy of the original approved application.

      Business response

      02/23/2024

I'm afraid I have to disagree with the narrative in this complaint and settlement.  Sopris Solar supported this project and never abandoned it. We tried to reach out to schedule the final inspection numerous times with ******, and we were continually turned away. Moreover, we received a call from Pikes Peak *************************** in June last year stating that another contractor had taken over our electrical permit. We were never made aware of this by ******. We had paid three electricians to go to her home to complete the electrical work. I have attached the invoices for the two electricians below as proof. In no way did we abandon this project.

Secondly, ****** requested money as part of her contract's terms, stating that if we did not complete the installation before the first of that year, we would owe her 4% of the contract price as a penalty. This provision was contemplated and signed because the *** tax credit for solar was set to drop to 26% from 30% that yearthe 4% provision related to the amount ****** would have lost in a tax credit. This is a moot point because the government instituted the Inflation Reduction Act that provided a 30% *** for the next ten years. Therefore, ****** never lost her 4% tax credit because it never decreased to 26%. I am not against reimbursing ****** for some of her utility bills, but not to the tune of $3403.20 because of this tax credit provision. Especially since the only part of this installation that we did not complete was the final inspection, only because she hired another person and would not let us sit for the final inspection.

      Complaint: 20251886

I am rejecting this response because:

They are now reneging (after several months) on what they agreed to pay to resolve the case.  They said they would pay what I requested in my demand letter if I revised my negative review.  I did revise my negative review. They are now, wanting to change the terms of resolution.

With regard to the requested refund, the language of the contract does not state that the refund was tied in any way to consideration of a tax credit increase or decrease.  It is listed under Section 7. Financing, item #4, which simply states that "Sopris Solar guarantees that they will install the solar system by December 31, 2021. If the system is not installed by this date, Sopris Solar will reimburse the Homeowner 4% of the total system price."

Sopris Solar did NOT contact me several times about final inspection.  I contacted Sopris several times before December 31, 2021, reminding them about the Section 7, item #4. I have emails demonstrating how I had to beg Sopris to respond and provide updates after their PM, ****, left for health reasons. Often when I did get a response, I was told that they were sorry it was taking so long, and they were really busy with multiple projects. The first inspection did not occur until June 8, 2022. The first inspection failed.  It was two months before another inspection occurred on August 11, 2022. That inspection failed. A month later the third inspection failed on September 15, 2022.  The electricians came out again on or around October 9, 2022, to check the installation against the approved plans. After they left, I received a call asking me to send photos of the installation to the electrician so he could schedule a final inspection.  On October 28, 2022, I reached out again to the electrician indicating I had heard nothing about a final inspection from Sopris or PPRBD.  The electrician must have contacted PPRBD because the Inspector did show up on October 28, 2022, but the installation failed final inspection.  October 28,2022, I communicated via text message with the electrician asking if he had seen the inspection report. He responded on October 29th confirming he had seen it.  Between that time and December 15th, I heard nothing from Sopris' people.  I reached out to ************************* on December 15, 2022, asking when the crew would come back to finish the job.  ***** responded a month later on January 15, 2023, "Sorry for the radio silence..." and someone would be out to finish to make the corrections requested by the building department. That was the last I heard from ***** or anyone at Sopris.  In an effort to get them to complete the work and finish the job and to get reimbursement for over a year of electrical bills that should have been eliminated if the solar system had been operational, I worked with an attorney to draft and deliver a demand letter, which was confirmed delivered to their address of record on 4/7/23 at 2:44pm.  I still heard nothing from them until they responded to my original complaint to BBB.  In my mind, leaving a job uncompleted and not communicating with the buyer, including ignoring a demand letter, constitutes abandonment.

      Sincerely,

      ***************************

      **************,

We are ready to mobilize to complete your project.  We will have a representative reach out to you to advise you of the plan to install you solar project.

      Complaint: 20242026

I am rejecting this response because: the day after I received the business' response they were ready to "mobilize", I reached out to Sopris to have them call me.  All they did was forward my email to a Mr. ******** who did call me.  ************** and I spoke.  He explained he was simply trying to facilitate this and would get back with me.  I provided ************** with several documents and emails sent me from Sopris to enlighten him on Sopris' background of promises made and not kept plus the proof of the over $35,000.00 Sopris had been paid with little to show for it and how they are not transparent and only shared partial truths with him.  I received an email from ************** with a list of items Sopris was willing to do in order to complete my project.  One was Sopris would reapply for the Electrical and Building permits, now expired.  Another was, I would pay the installation sub-contractors directly.  Since Sopris has continually made promises and not fulfilled them I replied I was willing to pay the installation sub-contractors no problem, once the system was fully installed, connected to my local electrical company and fully operational for at least 30 days.  In addition, because Sopris has not been honest, they would need to place money in escrow and provide a specific deadline for project completion, if not completed on time they would forfeit the escrow money to me.

Needless to say, ************* did not reply to me as he promised nor has he replied to both an email and phone message I left him regarding this matter.

It is clear Sopris is not seriously interested in completing my project nor refunding my money with interest after 18 months of minimal contract obligations completed.  In addition, Sopris has stated they have purchased all my materials, yet only provide proof of quotations and estimates from suppliers with no receipts of payment and will not ship my alleged purchased product to my property.

Therefore, I reject what Sopris replied to the BBB as it is more of nothing in reality.

      Sincerely,

      *********************

      **************,

      Complaint: 20242026

I am rejecting this response because: despite me reaching out to ************* in emails, once on 9/29/23 & again on 10/20/23, he has not responded to me.  This is just another ploy to delay and not fulfill the contract signed in April of 2022.  Sopris is not interested/has no intentions of getting materials to me, reapplying for expired building and electrical permits or reimbursing me for equipment and labor needed to secure a soil sample which they used in applying and getting the initial building permit which as stated above is now expired.  They are unethical, habitual liars and continue to commit fraud with me and who knows how many others?

Sopris, if you want to show you are willing to fulfill your contract, send me the $3000.00 for equipment and labor invoice you have been provided nearly a year ago, ship all my material to my property, and reapply for the building and electrical permits all before the end of October 2023.

      Sincerely,

      *********************

      Customer response

      10/25/2023

to the BBB, sorry you have to be in the middle of this with no resolution in sight.  If you check and read the response form the business of 7/2023, they stated I was on the schedule within the next 4 weeks.  This was untrue as they have not been to my property since May 2022.

      Business response

      11/21/2023

      **************,

We are working on getting all of your materials delivered to your home.  Once received, we can discuss installing your system or you may contract another entity to install your system.

      Customer response

      11/25/2023

      Complaint: 20242026

I am rejecting this response because: this is just another deception on the part of ************** & **** B which continues to demonstrate the fraud they are perpetuating.  Simply put, if they were genuine and serious the materials would have already been delivered to my property.  Let's review some of their written responses...7/12/23 they stated, I would be on their schedule for installation within the next 4 weeks...no install started, 7/16/23 they stated, they plan to mobilize for install the first Friday in August...no install started, 9/3/23 they stated, they are ready to mobilize, no install started nor materials delivered, 10/23/23 they stated, for me to keep working with a ************** (a type of mediator for resolution), despite several emails to **************, he has not yet responded.  As anyone can figure out from promises stated above, Sopris Solar is not genuine in keeping their word or their contractual obligations.

As shared in a previous response from me, this is simple to complete in the next 14 days from today,

      1.  Provide me a check in the amount of $3000- to cover the cost of equipment & labor provided by me to secure a soil sample which was needed and used by Sopris to acquire a building permit (now expired).

      2.  Acquire and provide proof the Electrical & Building permits required for installation of this project have been secured.

      3.  Deliver ALL specified materials to my property including but not limited to solar panels, inverters, backup battery, mounting racks and support post, all copper conductors.

In this offer to me, you state I can have others install the system.  If this were to happen Sopris will be responsible for all costs in excess of the 4/4/2022 signed contract.  Since costs are now higher than when the contract was signed, this is your responsibility.

If Sopris wants to cancel this contract with me, this too is simple.  Just as stated in your contract there is a 2% monthly interest fee for late payments, you will pay me the same.  You can refund all my money ($35,935.80) with interest, plus all additional cost beyond contact price for full system operation and connected to my electrical provider Holy Cross.

As you know, I have turned over many documents to the Colorado Attorney General for the fraud being committed with me and likely others and it is only a matter of time before the legal systems comes down on Sopris and owner **************, a disbarred attorney for attempting to bring contraband (drugs) into a prison to one of his clients at the time.

Time for you boys to put up or shut up!

      Sincerely,

      *********************

      Business response

      01/30/2024

It has become apparent that we will not be able to install Mr. ****** ground mount because of irreconcilable differences regarding our previous relationship.  The last salesperson and owner, ***********************, has been let go, and we have begun restructuring our sales and customer service department. For now, I will be handling all communication from this point forward. From my previous interactions with ************** and from reviewing the notes and emails from our attorneys and ******************, it is apparent that we have tried to negotiate with ************** on numerous occasions. Ultimately, ************** responded aggressively and insulted everyone he spoke with. Therefore, I can offer this again:

We will deliver all the material to his property. I assure ************** that all equipment will be provided by February 21st, if not sooner. Most of the material is in our warehouse, with the remainder at our distributor.  As for the remaining balance on his contract $8,935.80 we will forego, and he can hire another installation company. As was mentioned previously, we have sent out individuals to survey and install at Mr. ****** on two occasions and were turned away; therefore, we will not risk this occurring again. We are more than happy to refer another installer for the installation.

As for the permit and interconnection agreement, we have asked Eagle County to renew the expired permit and will update the Holy Cross net metering agreement. As for any additional compensation, I am more than happy to talk about upgrading the system by increasing the size. Instead of providing (27) 450-watt modules, we can provide (27) 450-watt modules as an upgrade. We will also increase the inverter size to compensate for the increase in system size from 10.4 kW to 14.4 kW system size.  This, in turn, will give ************** additional production and savings.

      Regards,

      ******

      Complaint: 20242026

I am rejecting this response because:  I have not had any response from ****** aside from through the BBB.  After receiving a message on 1/30/2024 from ****** through the BBB and reading it I sent the following email directly to ******.  It is clear to me from his failure of any response his words are hollow and he does not intend to honor his word verbal or written.  ****** likes to play the victim card.  He only wants to negotiate to his benefit without any compromise.  Please read what I sent him on 2/2/2024.

      ******,

What do you consider to be the irreconcilable differences regarding our previous relationship which can not be resolved?  Please fully explain what exactly all of those are.

Answer me this, why should I negotiate with you and lessen my position with a signed contract in hand for product and services you have agreed to on 4/4/2022?  Please explain to me why you (Sopris) should be entitled to not fulfill your end of the written agreement.  I am not interested in any upgrading of my system, I am interested in having the system contracted for installed.

Let's keep this simple, if I am to believe your BBB response, you will need to demonstrate goodwill to me.  Goodwill from you will be a Zelle payment to me, using this email address (************** for my Zelle account) no later than Monday February 5th, 2024 by 5:00 PM MST for the outstanding invoice (attached) from providing the Soil sample you were responsible for according to our contract and used in acquiring the Building Permit (now expired) for my project which now equals $3457.19 which includes all outstanding interest charges, no less and no negotiating.  I read in a response you have given to the BBB for another client, how you want to charge them fees based on your contract with them.  Since you are unwilling to negotiate on your side of the contract, so am I unwilling to negotiate with you.

Please verify your current warehouse location.  I plan to personally visit before 2/21/24 to see for myself all my product you state has been purchased and stored in the warehouse which you are prepared to ship on or before 2/21/24.  In addition, I suggest before I visit, you acquire any/all product which is currently at your distributors, as you state, to your warehouse so I may see for myself all products at one time in one place which you plan to ship, as you stated in your most recent BBB response.  If you cannot have it all together for me to witness, it will reinforce your intent to commit fraud.

From all my experience with reading your numerous responses, you do like to embellish and misstate facts, as you have in the most recent BBB response also.

If you can produce an installer which will complete my project for the balance remaining in my contract and warranty all products regardless of who installs, then there should be no reason to negotiate.  Of course, this will include, all permits, approved inspections, commissioning and submitting for or assisting with submitting for all rebates as per contract also.  If any interconnection agreement has been prepared, please provide it to me for my review. I am willing to provide you and your sub-contractors full access to my property at the installation locations as I have stated previously.

I will stop by the ********************* Department come this Monday to verify they have been contacted to renew the permit as you have stated.  In addition, I contact Holy Cross to verify they have been provided with an interconnection agreement at any time from Sopris for my project.

If you choose not to respond to me directly from this email and not make the Zelle payment, well, that will tell the real story, and I will then know how to respond to the BBB.

      dq

I hope I can make this clear to everyone/anyone who is considering using Sopris to provide product and installation services, it will likely not go well, if at all.  If a bit of homework is done on the internet in advance and before signing a contract (which was my mistake, I didn't dig deep enough) you can find Sopris has unpaid outstanding judgements against them which make them not collectable even if taken to court and one wins a judgement against Sopris.  I when you combine that with their poor and excessive response time of initial installation and warranty servicing, it is simple to conclude hiring Sopris is not a good choice.

      Sincerely,

      *********************

      HI,

Over the past month or so I have view the BBB website and looked up Sopris Solar.

The BBB site shows: This business profile is being updated.

Could you please tell me what this means?  Right now no one can see the complaints against them.  How long does it take to update a business profile?  When will the numerous complaints against Sopris Solar available for all to see?

      thx
