During the month of March 2023, we had several problems with the truck. First, the check engine light came on and immediately we called back to AG Auto Sales to let them know. They referred us to their mechanic shop, ***** ********* **** ********* ******** ***** ************ ** *****. We called the shop to schedule an appointment, however, when the appointment date came, the owner had forgotten we were coming and could not take the truck. We had to come back the next week and leave the truck to be worked on. The shop worked on the truck and the check engine light was off for 2 days. Again, we called back to the mechanic’s shop to schedule another appointment. We went on our appointment, however, could not leave the truck, as the shop had to order the parts. Again, we had to take the truck home, as the mechanic shop told us it would take approximately 2 weeks for the part to come in. All this coming and going was very inconvenient, as the shop is about 64 miles round trip from where I live. Later that evening, my son was driving the truck and noticed very heavy white smoke coming from the exhaust. We had the truck towed to my son’s job and dropped it there. The next day, we had to move the truck, and could not get any tow truck to come. We had to drive the truck home with heavy white smoke billowing from the exhaust. All the traffic behind me was covered in smoke. To me, this seemed to possibly be indicative of engine problems. I called back to AG Auto Sales to let them know that the truck was malfunctioning again, and I needed to turn the truck back in to them.
Finally, I was able to get the truck home. The truck was not safe to drive, and I worried that it might explode if I were to even crank the engine. On April 3, 2023, I called AG Auto Sales, and they sent a tow truck, and tool the truck back to ***** ********. I thought I might give the business another chance and consider getting another vehicle, since they already had my information. My son and I decided on another vehicle, a 2014 Acura TL, to replace the 2014 Ford Explorer. The owner, Vic, told us that he would work with us to put us in another vehicle, no problem. However, when it came time to start the deal on that, I was told that my interest rate had increased greatly, due to my credit ratings. This was extremely frustrating, after all my family had been through, and I decided it was best to cancel all deals with AG Auto Sales and buy a car elsewhere. I asked for a full refund on my down payment of $8500, which seemed fair.
The finance manager and owner, Vic *****, decided against this, and provided a refund of $7640.30, on April 13, 2023. This amount was sans $859.70, the price of titling and tags for the vehicle. I asked for the full refund of $8500, but was told that I could not get it due to AG Auto not being able to get a refund from Maryland Motor Vehicle Association. This is not fair at all, as I sold my family’s vehicle and brought the 2014 Ford Explore in good faith, expecting it to be a reliable vehicle.
In addition to this, I made the first payment on the car to ******** ********* of $282. When I called ******** to update them on returning the truck to the dealer, I asked about getting a refund on the $282. ******** informed me that they would not be able to help me, rather, AG Auto Sales would have to refund me. When I called AG Auto Sales to provide this update, they stood firm on refunding $7640.30. Again, this is not fair, as I was sold a vehicle with problems. I only had the truck approximately 1 month and had so many problems had occurred. How could anyone be expected to keep a problematic vehicle? And, why wouldn’t the consumer expect a full refund on this bad product.
My resolution to this complaint is to receive the additional refund due back on this truck. As mentioned earlier, I have received the initial refund of $7640.30 from AG Auto Sales. However, I am also requesting the additional part of the refund that was deducted from the down payment of $859.70.
I have received a refund on the 1st month’s payment from ******** ********* for the amount of $282.00 I feel that I am entitled to this refund as I trusted the dealer to sell me a good, reliable car, free of issues, and I was transparent with them in selling my 2013 Ford Explorer to them. I provided all my information as requested to work the deal. I have asked AG Auto Sale to honor this additional amount of $859.70 but the owner still refuses. The owner promised to take good care of us, and not to worry. Yet, it has been a complete worry. Thus, I am referring this situation to the BBB for more assistance resolving this matter. Thank you.
Regards,
