I keep receiving statements and ******* letters from BB&T and Truist regarding an overdrawn bank account. I never opened an account with them. I tried calling several times, but it is impossible to reach a live person on their system. I have written to them twice requesting that they stop ******* me, but have received no response.Business response

On 11/3/21, my mother passed away, and my wife and I are joint owners of the account. When we went in to close the account on 11/17/21 after we received the death certificates, we found out that the account was overdrawn due to social security pulling her check out after it was deposited. I paid the $1400+ to bring the account current and closed it. The manager, ********, informed me that any transactions that had already been submitted for processing would still go through that night. This was confirmed by the letter I got when I closed the account which stated "per your request, a maintenance transaction has been processed to close your account ending in ****. However, if any unidentified debits or credits are presented against this account during nightly processing, your account *** not close properly....".When I woke on Thursday morning 11/18/21, I checked the account and it still had a zero balance, so I (incorrectly) assumed we were all good, since nothing had been presented. When I again checked the account on Friday 11/19/21, there was a negative $25.38 balance from a debit that was allowed to be posted TWO DAYS after closing the account. I, again, went in and spoke to ********, and he informed me that he was unable to close the account, and that I should instead simply stop the ACHs and debits. Upon checking the account this morning, Saturday 11/20/21, there has been another debit presented, and ANOTHER $36 overdraft fee applied, bringing the account to negative $75.38, THREE DAYS AFTER I CLOSED THIS ACCOUNT, and ******** only credited the account ONE of the now FOUR $36 overdraft fees. Both ******** and their call center are telling me that they can't close the account, that I will just have to wait until no more transactions occur. This is unethical and, as far as I can tell, illegal. They are refusing to let me close my account, albeit using words other than "we're simply not going to let you close your account".Business response

**************** representatives at local branches are not able to perform vital account services, despite advertising as a banking establishment that can attend to the needs of customers. The only way to access and maintain a bank account is by waiting on hold for hours with overseas customer service. These representatives have made false claims about stopping automatic withdrawals from my account and charged a fee to do so, but the unauthorized withdrawals are still occurring. The local branch employees are not able to service my account and stop the unauthorized withdrawals.Business response
