In December of 2021, I had my 2008 ************* SE towed to Midas in Binghamton New York for a bad alternator. They had stated that the job would take one day and ended up taking 4 days. This was because the mechanics punctured the radiator and they had to order a new radiator. I had rented a hotel as I was not near my place of residence and was traveling north to Canada. They refused to reimburse my hotel fee, my uber/transportion fee or anything related to the inconvenience that was their fault. They charged 900 dollars for an alternator job, which is usually around 500 dollars. The manager was very unprofessional when discussing the damage done to the radiator on their part. They replaced the radiator but they did not put back all of the parts on the motor and left a radiator line untightened which caused antifreeze to leak from the car after a couple of weeks later. I do not live in Binghamton so it is very inconvenient to bring the car back to them and now this incident has turned into a much more expensive and complicated mess.Business response

I recently purchased 4 tires from Midas on their suggestion, I noticed tire or tires sounded loud so I did make appointment to get them rotated as they suggested at 3000 miles . But before my appointment while driving the rear tire blew out . The tow truck driver in all his years he said never seen a tire blow out like that especially a new tire. Towed it to Midas they then charged me for another tire at a higher price. Did not even offer to pro rate the tire or call the tire company that it was from to have them look at the tire. After letting them know what we thought about this they did offer a small discount. I guess this was the icing on the cake because before this we had our sons car in and most definitely were over charged for a starter maybe even the battery I'm not sure but I did call the other midas and ask how much for the starter for same car and they gave me a very lower price .. We truly think this tire was a bad tire and I'm kind of scared to have these other tires on my car. I would not want to have a blow out on a highway with my truck that is on a lift. I'm scared to drive it now. They tried saying the tire blew out because it was low in air. No we check our tires all the time and if it was low in air it would of been pulling to one side. We spent a lot of money on these tires and I guess we should of bought the cheaper ones. But at $450. A tire I don't expect it to be low in air or blow out. Unless I ran over something. And they should of pro rated the tire and contacted the company. Thank you for your time.Business response

Nothing more we can do here. New tires were purchased on 4/16/21. Customer returned on 1/4/22, 9 months and over 3,000 miles later needing a new tire. Manager spoke with customer and has pictures of tire. Customer drove on the tire while it was flat at some point. Customer did not purchase Road Hazard Warranty, but manager did prorate (clearly shows on invoice $149.99 prorate discount) the new tire for customer satisfaction.Customer response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I never drove on this tire while it was flat that is ridiculous! It clearly blew out on us. We believe it was a bad tire and do not feel safe with the other tires and want them to be on notice if I have another blow out like this. We were very lucky this time we caught it and were able to pull over before the tire completely came off and we did not crash . We ask them to have the tire company come take a look at the tire they refused. They only gave us a deal after we complained. We also were never offered road side on these tires they said we couldn't have it on these. We definitely would of purchased it after spending $450 on each tire that would of been something we would of done! Also why are their prices different then the other stores ? My sons starter was way cheaper of a price at the other store in Rome ? Well if another tire blows out and I crash I'm sure an investigation will be brought on these tires then.Initial Complaint

I had my 2008 Honda Accord taken into midas (3209 E main st) for a broken CV axle on October 29th. it was *fixed* and they told me I may have a wheel bearing issue as well. My vehicle broke down a couple of weeks later and it was the CV axle not the bearing. I wasn't in the best financial situation so I waited a bit before getting it repaired by them again on December 10th. They replaced the bearing and fixed the axle. It worked for about 4 days before the CV axle broke again. I returned again about a week later and they told me they needed a few days to look at it. Few days later I got a call from Midas informing me it "may" be a bigger issue with the entire axle and they'll charge me a little over 1,000 dollars. I refused due to the fact I had already spent a significant amount of money with them on repairs with no fix. My car hadn't lasted more than a couple weeks if not a few days and I am still currently without a working vehicle. The work that I paid for was lackluster at best and the way that this situation has been handled by midas is unacceptable. These *repairs* were no more than temporary fixes and I honestly feel scammed. I don't even want them to work on my vehicle anymore because I know it'll just break down again. I just need my money back so I can get it fixed by people who will really fix it. I paid for a service and I deserve results not a deeper money sinkBusiness response

Unfortunately, Customers 14 year old vehicle is experiencing multiple issues. customer was in on 10/28 with service request - "check front half shafts." We replaced RF half shaft and recommended RF bearing. Customer returned 12/10 and we replaced RF bearing and warrantied out the half shaft. customer returned on 12/24 and we found vehicle needs CV boot replaced, customer declined.Customer response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not accept this response due to the fact that my issue was never resolved. I paid for repairs (twice) that clearly were not diagnosed properly and as a consequence my car never lasted long between "fixes". I declined because I no longer trust them to fix my car and I refuse to give them another dime just so my car can break down a couple days after they "fix" it. The RF bearing replacement changed nothing, because my CV axle broke anyway. So what was the point of even getting it replaced? I doubt a newly put in CV axle (2 of them) broke twice because my car is 14 years old. If it really is the boot then this should've been identified way earlier rather than after 3 visits. I was gonna let this go, but I can see that Midas will continue to take advantage of their customers by giving them pitiful service. In conclusion, I do not accept this response.Initial Complaint

************** **** ******** ********* *** ****** When my engine started knocking, I took my car to Midas to figure out what was wrong. I was told I needed a knock sensor. I authorized the work to be done, inquiring that was all I needed. I was told I could drive to the dealership. I could not even leave the parking lot. My car was not fixed, my engine even started smoking. This was on 11/8/21 I believe this was a workmanship issue and when I tried to voice my concern, I was met with silence from the district manager and very negative attitude from the manager. I was offered no solutions to my issue. Oddly, the mechanic who worked on my car was the only one willing to reverse the damage that was doneBusiness response

October 26, 2021 I brought my 2016 dodge grandcaravan to midas in boardman to have the headlight wiring replaced on the passanger side & an oil change. I believe the total for this service was $120.00. After picking up my vehicle I realized something under the hood was smoking, when i went to investigate i realized my hood wouldnt open & from the tiny gap i could see the bulb was loose in the engine compartment. I immediately called the mechanic from midas (***** ****) who i knew personally, he came to my house within 15mins and managed to get the hood open and put the lightbulb into the proper place and told me that midas would cover any damage to bring it back to the shop and we would figure it out. I brought it back in October 28,2021 and watched multiple mechanics wedge screw drivers and try to bend my hood into working again. They did send me for 2 different estimates, one at a business on meridian in austintown and the other was done at king collision in boardman. I spoke with ***** a couple weeks into it (since the manager, ****** said ***** was the onlu one who knew what was going on) and he said that they accepted fault for the paint since they wedged screw drivers but they didnt see how they could have damaged my hinge. Finally after a month the district manager, ******************* contacted me and said they decided they werent paying for anything. Im left with a heavily damaged hood, and both fenders. When investigating this, the account my van is listed under for midas is ********** (my step dad).Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/12/17) */ THE VEHICLE CAME IN WITH A DAMAGED HINGE. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMGED CAUSED WHEN WE OPEN THE HOOD WITH AN EXISTING BROKEN HINGE. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2021/12/22) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) My hinge was in 100percent working order, even your mechanic stated that. And the damage was primarily caused when your mechanics put a screw driver in the opening and tried to muscle the hinge into working. Once again the hinge was in PERFECT working order when i brought it in for the headlight replacement.Initial Complaint

Midas Ithaca NY 607-275-4336 347 Elmira Rd, Ithaca, NY 14850 December 2, 2021. I brought my 2012 Honda pilot to get, 1. Oil changed 2. Front breaks checked. 3. Running day tiforbothoth ights replaced. The rotors were diagnosed warped but I was never informed so I can change my rotors, instead, they offered to clean front breaks. My front breaks are making metal on metal noise after the service, and my rotors were never replaced. Both day time lights were changed with new bulbs. Next day one was not working. After I called to inform them about both issues. They did not offer to resolve any of my complaints. I need to be reimbursed for both of those services I paid for which were never corrected.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 6, 2021/12/10) */ On 12/1/21 we did an oil change, replaced 2 bulbs and a caliper slide service on the front, which is simply lubricating the moving parts of the caliper. This is an inexpensive first option. Sounds like the caliper will need to be replaced. No refund will be given. We can give the customer an estimate for replacement. If the bulb we installed is faulty, we will replace under warranty. If their is a secondary issue with the lights, we did not cause this and no refund will be given for bulbs replaced. Consumer Response /* (3000, 8, 2021/12/13) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) They were not forthright with the rotors/calibers. I was told the service I paid for would fix the issue,I was never made aware that my "rotors are warped" verbatim next day when I called to ask. No one informed me my rotors were warped, I was never given that info. I would have not driven away knowing my rotors are warped. I paid for an unnecessary service. That's the refund I'm looking for. Business Response /* (4000, 10, 2021/12/14) */ Nothing more we can do here. Customer was charged appropriately for the service performed. Unfortunately, the caliper will need to be replaced. Consumer Response /* (4200, 12, 2021/12/14) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I made an appt for oil change, front dtr, and check front breaks. The manager on duty said that cleaning the calibers will help with the concern, he never informed that the rotors were warped, he gave me "cleaning them" as the solution. I agreed it cost $100, next day the front breaks were worse so I called midas to inform them, the mechanic who worked on the car answered the phone, I know this because he told me so, h was surprised I didnt get my rotors changed, i told him why would I,verbatim "because your front rotors are warped" my response was that I would never have left knowing this. Why did the manager on duty not inform me? He the got a different manager, this gentleman, blamed ignorance on the manager on duty the day my car was worked on, and said "nothing we can do." I beg to differ. Don't blame others, and do the right thing, take responsibility, and please refund me the $100 for a service not necessary.Initial Complaint

12/02/21 I went into Midas located on 921 Hill rd N Pickerington Ohio 43147. I was greeted by a man named ***. I explained I am in search of new tires for my truck. He asked for the information of my vehicle. He has another employee go outside to look at my tires. He employee came back and stated I need 4 new tires. I knew this wasn't correct and I only needed 2. *** placed the order for 4 new tires and explained I am required to pay a deposit for the tires of $100.00. I paid the $100.00 via credit card. Unfortunately I was involved in a motorcycle accident on 12/4/21 and current am unable to walk so I had to cancel my order. I contacted the store today 12-06/21 around 10am after being released from the hospital this morning. I spoke with a man named ***** to cancel my order. He agreed to cancel my order.
