On 11-12-2021 my boyfriend took my car to Midas to ge an oil change as I was working. He never noticed what I was charged on my debit card and brought the rceipt home. I saw I was overcharged $31.80 and the following day called John, the manager and he said yes there was an error and he'd give me $20.00 back. Reported this to their corporate office and an Ian **** wrote me back and flat out told me I was getting no refund and I "musthave known someone" to get the previous high-mileage at a discounted rate. I turned them in to Consumer Protection with no help. He (Ian) sent CP a statement that was doctored-it had to be- as I use my debit card for all transactions and, as you can see, that amount ($95.38) is not what I spent for anything that day at Midas. Although it was an error, it was $31.79. I do not know what the "parts" and "labor" would be on an oil change.

Customers vehicle takes 10w30 oil. This oil is not considered "conventional" and cost us more, so the price of this oil is higher then our Conventional oil change. The 10w30 oil change is billed under "High Mileage. Customer can reference previous invoices to confirm. We also recently had to raise our prices do to our cost going up. I have explained to this customer back in November when she filed a report with Midas - Our rates for an oil change are clearly posted at our locations and are as follows: $29.99/Conventional, $59.99/High Mileage, $69.99/Full Synthetic. Your vehicle has a history of getting 10w30 / High Mileage and that is the oil we used during your last visit, and you were charged accordingly. If you have a long-term customer relationship with the manager or employee that has discounted your oil changes in the past, I recommend you stop into the location and speak to them.  If that employee is no longer at this location or has decided not to offer the discount any longer, there is nothing more we can do.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: No. 1, the FIRST oil cheange was not to be high mileage. I explained that was an error. I never get the high mileage oilchange as I change it often enough that I do not need high-mileage oil changes. The first time (in 12-20) was an error on their part; that is why **** said "I must have known someone there to get that price". I have 4 vehicles and NEVER get high mileage and did not request it in 11-21. Instead of doing the right thing, they lost  2 steady customers. I looked at the complaints against this business, they're overwhelming. So John, the  manager, admitted the error, but only wanted to refund me $20. They'd rather lose 2 steady customers with 5 vehicles after years of service with them than pay the money they OWE me. Smart business person. Not to mention a doctored charge of $95 and change. I never get mechanical work done there, strictly oil changes, so I'd like **** to explain that one. Look at my bank statement and see what I spent that day there at Midas.

      Sincerely,

      ****** ********

      Business response

      04/25/2022

Again, I cannot explain any clearer. We only stock 10w30 weight oil in high mileage. Our $29.99 Conventional oil change is for 5w20 and 5w30 only. 10w30 is not included in our $29.99 oil change. Customers vehicle takes 10w30, we put in 10w30 and charged accordingly.

Even John the manager admitted the error. I should have just took the **** $20 he offered.

Midas was the last place to touch or service anything wheel/tire related on my vehicle which is located on ****** and other paperwork. My lug nut came off of my wheel and the bolt on the wheel hub is stripped. I contacted midas and was given an appointment to resolve the issue. Once at appointment, staff said I would need to pay for the services and he sees I got my tire rotated after they did my calipers which is a lie. The service tech provided me with a ****** print out to show me I had my tires rotated which it clearly did not state that. I contacted midas regarding the print out and was hung up on.

We replaced the front calipers on 11/6. ****** shows on 11/24, customer had an oil change done at a secondary location. Customer needs to contact this location or who worked on vehicle more recent.

We performed our service 6 months ago. Yes, ****** shows an oil change was completed after. We also do not know if tire(s) were removed by any one at anytime in those 6 months. A lug nut does not just fall off even if it was stripped when installed. We will work with customer the best we can on cost to repair, but we will not be taking responsibility for this issue 6 months later knowing vehicle was serviced by others after us.

On march 17 i called midas. I said my breaks squeak , is that something you can fix. the guy who i believe was the general manager said yes. I made an appt. for 3:15 for the same day. At 4:00 i went next door and rented a car. The guy from midas walked in and told me it would be $800 I said ok go ahead. I drive way and think that sounds like a lot so i called and i said do you promise if i pay the $800 thats going to stop the squeak. He said if it doesnt bring it back the brake pads have a year warranty. I said ok go ahead. They call me 2 hours later and say my car is ready. I go pay $750 pick up my car before i even get out of the parking lot i hear the squeaking. I turn around and come back to midas the worker is out side and i said its still squeaking do you want to get in so you can hear and i drove next door to kroger where it was OBVIOUSLY squeaking. A motor cycle drives by the worker hits my car door to show his irritation of the noise of the motorcycle... I pull up stop again and he said yep i hear it its gotta be the front brake pads. I take my. car back to midas . leave it over night . then pick it up the next day and pay $150. The next day i hear the brakes squeaking all day very loudly and they have been sqeaking just as bad as the day i brought my car into midas. SO i paid $1000 and still have squeaking brakes. Midas gave me my old brakes and rotors and i showed them to my dad who said my brakes and rotors look fine and he thinks they took advantage of me because im a woman.

I had my car towed to Midas after they told me my alternator and battery was causing my car not to start. In addition I asked them to check my brakes too then they advise my brakes and rotors needed replacement so I agreed to have alternator, battery, brakes and rotors done. They called me to say my car was done and to pick it up. I paid $1312.56 and left to go home. Not even an hour later I attempt to start my car and the same thing was happening with my car as before I brought it in. Not starting. Then I have to pay for another tow to them for me to wait with my car for 2 hours while they try to figure out the real problem just to be told they have to look further into it to figure out the issue. I didn’t know I’d be without a car a total of 6 days now, 2 of which I had to pay for a rental. My car is still sitting because they claim the one person that can figure out the problem is out sick Sunday. The one I spoke to 2 days in a row named Brandon, the manager, advised it’s going to be a few more days before I even know the problem with my car and this is unacceptable. I don’t have transportation to work and this is causing time, as well as money and possibly more repairs and they don’t seem to care at all and lack any empathy for the inconvenience they’re causing. I want my car fixed and diagnosed correctly as well as a discount/refund for all this inconvenience. If they can’t fix it then they need to have it towed to who can fix it. I don’t have resources to get it towed to anywhere else. I paid 2 times to get a towed to them already and still and square one! Nowhere.

Ms. ******** vehicle was back at the shop yesterday and we were able to get to the root of her problem and take care of it, what it turned out to be was the starter also went bad. Ms. ****** was back in her vehicle last night and so far everything is working well. When we called her last night she confirmed the vehicle was good and added she would give us a good google review as well. We asked if she would retract the BBB complaint and she said she would. If she has any further questions or issues pop up she is more than welcome to reach out to our DM or the shop.

On 3/8/2022 I took my murano to have an oil change done and an alignment. I was told I need new tie rods so I purchased them. After having the work done my car started to shake when I reached about 50mph and the wheel was now off center. I took it back for them to straighten my wheel. They did straighten my wheel but the shaking is worse than ever. My car never shook before I took it there. Now i don’t even feel it’s safe to drive with my children in it. I spent over $600 to “fix” my car and now can’t even drive it.

2/28/22 - took my 2016 Ford Escape to Midas for brakes (front and back) and an Oil Change. Approximate total: $970. On 3/6 I was driving when I heard a scrapping sound. I got out and looked beneath my car, the splash guard was hanging off under my car. It proceeded to completely fall off at the front attachments. Later, I found a screw belonging to my car beneath the splash guard on the road. I sent photos to an independent mechanic explaining and he stated he believed that Midas was at fault for not putting screws in correctly or forgetting altogether. I brought the car into Midas the following day (3/7)- taking unpaid time off of work. At that point I was told "the holes were stressed because the car and splash guard had gotten wet." I attempted to speak to a manager about a refund at least for the oil change that lead to the issue, but also to compensate for my time. I was then treated extremely poorly. I was offered a free oil change, however I will never go to a Midas again. I spoke with Midas corporation and they are unable to help because it is a franchise. At that time they told me that the reason it fell off was because it was "missing screws." The story continued to change. I reached out to Ford regarding the cost of the part-since it had been dragged under my car- plus lab= approximately $400. Moreover, I explained the portion about the "holes being stressed" and the Ford mechanic laughed. They also sited that Midas was likely at fault. Prior to taking my car to Midas, it had been serviced by other oil change businesses and never was I told the "holes are stress" or that I was "missing screws." Additionally, if this was the case, the mechanic at Midas should have informed me and offered to fix it, instead of allowing me to leave with pieces of my car in a precarious situation. I tried to submit a claim to the BBB last week, but I'm not sure it went through since I haven't heard back.

I am rejecting this response because the offer listed does not supply any details regarding who will be doing the work, who will be paying for the work, or when the part will be in for me to get.

I am happy to accept this offer with more details listed herein. I have not been contacted by the DM or informed that the guard has been ordered. I also do not want to have Midas work on my car, ever again. If they are going to pay for labor at a Ford dealership, then that is acceptable. I look forward to hearing from you.

I will follow up with the DM that the part is on order. As mentioned, the issue is, it is a back order part through the dealer. Once the part arrives, we will contact the customer and we can set up a day and time for customer to bring the car to install. If customer chooses to pick up the part and have someone else install, that is their choice, but we will not be paying for the installation.

I am rejecting this response because: I do not trust Midas to do this work on my car. It is their fault that their mechanics did not replace the part properly after a simple oil change (what their company largely does as a standard service). I will NEVER be going to a Midas again given their clear demonstration of incapability and lack of ownership over their mistakes (as evidenced by the numerous "reasons" that I was told that the guard fell off my car despite being fine up until that point). In this case, I see that receiving money for the cost of the part and labor from a separate company (Ford), is an acceptable resolution.

      Sincerely,

On December 7,2021, I took my ***** ******* to the Midas location at 3263 West Broad St., Columbus, OH 43204. The issue I was having was a grinding noise in my back passenger side sometimes when braking and sometimes when driving. I was told that they would look at it and inspect all my brakes. I got the call that my brakes and rotors need to be replaced. I oked the work. When I arrived to pick up my van I was surprised that they had replaced the front brakes and rotors since I knew I had them both replaced in Aug of 2019 at another mechanic. I was told that sound can travel. I was a bit leary but trusted that he knew what he was doing so I paid and left. A few days later the sound was still there. I called to express this to the man on the phone. I had no time to bring it back as I was going out of town. The sound was there off and on just like before. When I finally had time to take it back I told the manager that they should not have replaced the front brakes and rotors. He was going to charge me to take a look at the back passenger break. I was not willing to pay nor did I trust him at this time so I left and went to my former mechanic. Upon inspection they found that Midas had left a bolt out of my brake when they replace my back brakes and rotors on 10/15/2020 and it caused the casing to grind against my tire rim. ( I have pictures) Had they inspected all my brakes as they told me they were going to do they would have found this was what was wrong with my van. I did not need new brakes and rotors on the front of the van. Nor would I have oked the work had I known it was front brakes they wanted to replace.

Manager has already spoke to customer on 2/23. Customer was in on 12/7/21 with Service Request - BRAKE INSPECTION, GRINDING. We inspected vehicle and found front brakes need replaced. Last time customer had the front brakes replaced was 2.5 years and over 40,000 miles ago according to CARFAX. If we left a bolt out 2 years and almost 20,000 miles ago when replacing rear brakes, there would have been severe damage done within weeks if not days of the repair. The work we performed is under warranty. No refund will be issued.
